According to the different production methods of acrylic resin, the staff of acrylic resin manufacturers can be divided into:

Emulsion polymerization is polymerized by monomers, initiators and their reaction solvents, and is generally made into a resin with a solid content of 50% and about 50%. Reactive solvents are mostly benzene (toluene or xylene) and esters (ethyl acetate, butyl acetate), which can be used alone or in combination.

The solvent is different, the product performance is different, the color number is different, and the glass transition temperature is low. Generally, no methacrylate reaction is used, and the high solid content can reach 80%. It can be used as a high-solid coating and is easy to produce. Since solvents are mostly dangerous goods, transportation is inconvenient!

Suspension polymerization is a relatively complicated production process, which is mostly used in the production of solid resins. The solid acrylic resin generally adopts an acrylate with a methyl group. The usual reaction process is to put monomers, initiators and additives into the reaction axe, then put distilled water to react, and then wash, dry and filter after a certain time and temperature reaction.


3. Bulk polymerization is a highly efficient production process. The raw materials are usually put in a special plastic film. The reaction becomes lumps, which are taken out and crushed, and then filtered. The solid acrylic resin produced by this method has higher purity. Good quality stability.

In other solvent polymerization reactions, a solvent is used as an intermediary substance during the reaction, and the solvent is removed after the reaction.

Acrylic monomers (methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, n-butyl methacrylate, etc.) are used as basic components to be cross-linked to form an insoluble acrylic polymer with a network structure.


There are two types of cross-linking methods:

1. Reactive cross-linking type, the functional groups in the polymer have no cross-linking reactivity, and cross-linking components with at least two functional groups (such as melamine resin, epoxy resin, urea resin and metal oxide, etc.) are cross-linked by reaction The curing and cross-linking components cannot be stored for a long time after being added, and should be used in time.


2. Self-crosslinking type, the polymer chain itself contains two or more reactive functional groups (hydroxyl, carboxyl, amide, hydroxymethyl, etc.), heated to a certain temperature (or at the same time adding a catalyst), the functional groups react with each other to complete Cross-linked. This thermosetting acrylic resin is mainly used as a treatment agent for fabrics, leather, paper, industrial coatings and architectural coatings.
