The silane coupling agent is difficult to hydrolyze in water without additives, and the hydrolysis cycle is very long. When the silane coupling agent is hydrolyzed, it will be accompanied by the side reaction of polycondensation. The polycondensation product will precipitate at the bottom of the aqueous solution, which will affect the product use effect. In order to ensure the normal progress of the hydrolysis reaction, we usually use the following methods:


First of all, weakly acidic and weakly basic aqueous solutions can promote the hydrolysis of silane coupling agents. Some silane coupling agents with acidic or basic groups are relatively easy to hydrolyze because their own Y groups will affect The pH of the aqueous solution makes the silane coupling agent easier to hydrolyze. Silanes whose own groups have a weaker effect on the pH of the aqueous solution can be adjusted by adding acetic acid, ammonia and other substances to adjust the pH of the aqueous solution to make the silane coupling agent easier to hydrolyze. The hydrolysis rate of the coupling agent is significantly improved.


Secondly, when the silane coupling agent is hydrolyzed, a certain amount of methanol, ethanol and other solvents that can be arbitrarily miscible with water will be produced. This is determined by the X group in the silane structure. If the silane coupling agent is added to the aqueous solution for hydrolysis in advance The solvent generated at the time will make the silane coupling agent more fully dispersed in the aqueous solution and make the hydrolyzed solution more stable. If a small amount of ethanol is added to the aqueous solution before hydrolysis of the vinyl silane, the oil-bead-like silane coupling agent will be more miscible with the aqueous solution and will not easily precipitate out by condensation polymerization. In addition, the silane coupling agent needs to be fully stirred when it is hydrolyzed to allow the silane coupling agent to more fully contact with water, and reduce the condensation reaction between the silane coupling agent molecules due to contact. Once the silane coupling agent is polycondensed, it is difficult. Hydrolyze again.
