Preparation of silane coupling agent solution

We know that when the silane coupling agent is used, the silane coupling agent solution needs to be diluted. The preparation methods of these solutions are as follows:


Silane is usually diluted with water to a concentration of about 0.1~2%. If silane is insoluble in water, it is recommended to be used in combination with 0.1~2.0% acetic acid aqueous solution or ethanol aqueous solution (acetic acid, ethanol, water together). Acetic acid is used to control hydrolysis The adjustment of speed and PH value greatly affect the stability of silanol.


(1) Add acetic acid to water to prepare an aqueous solution with a final concentration of 0.1-2%. If the silane solubility is better, it is recommended to use a lower concentration of acetic acid solution. For aminosilanes, there is no need to add acetic acid.


(2) Drop the silane coupling agent into the acetic acid aqueous solution and mix until the concentration is 0.1~2.0%. Slowly add silane dropwise and quickly stir the aqueous solution to prevent gel formation.


(3) After adding silane, continue to vibrate for 30-60 minutes until the solution becomes completely transparent, indicating that the silane has been completely hydrolyzed.


(4) If necessary, then filter. If solid impurities appear, filtration is recommended. If the silane solution is used continuously, it is recommended to use a sieve of less than 0.5μ for circular filtration.


(5) The stability of each silane linking agent is shown in Table 3. The alkylmethoxysilane functional group reacts with water to form an unstable silanol functional group, which rapidly condenses to form a siloxane structure. Silanol is usually unstable in the presence of water, but it is more stable in weak acid solutions. Amino silanes are an exception, because amino functional groups help silanes become more stable in aqueous solutions. Table 3 shows the information of several product aqueous solutions and their stable pH values.
